Catch Them Off Guard

Stop them in the hallway the next time you walk by - say how proud you are of them & how you see them working hard at something that hasn’t always been easy.

My son had a really good baseball weekend. He was hitting very well - so close to an over-the-fence home run, and people noticed. They said, “Wow, Landen has really been hitting well!”

What I said to him, “I’m proud of you for practicing. I’m proud of you for listening. I’m proud of you for not giving up when it got frustrating. Because the truth is, being great at something doesn’t happen one time. The greatest athletes don’t practice once and call it good. They keep showing up. They’re consistent. They practice even when they’re already doing well.” And when people would come up to me - “I told them the truth. He practices every day. He listens to his dad. They work on it together. They keep showing up. Every day last week he was outside practicing. He was consistent.”

Encourage him to keep showing up for himself. See what another week of practicing every day can look like….it might look like an over-the-fence home run ;)

And honestly, it’s the same for us as moms, as women, as human beings. Don’t give up on what you love just because life gets busy. Don’t stop showing up for yourself. Keep going. Be consistent with the things that bring you joy, peace, confidence, and/or purpose.

Make time for yourself. Find something you love to do. Start small.

A lunch break walk outside. A yoga/fitness class. Hanging out more with friends and family. Coffee dates. A massage. A pedicure. A quiet morning before the house wakes up.

Pick one thing that makes you feel good - start making it part of your week/month. Be consistent until it becomes a non-negotiable in your life.

Continue showing up for those non-negotiables. That’s how goals are achieved. That’s how self-confidence grows and is strengthened. That’s how we teach our kids - not just by what we say, but by what they watch us do.

Be consistent.

Be great.

And keep showing up for what you love.
