Don’t Rush the Summer You Prayed For

Summer at home with kids while working from home has definitely been a wild ride.

Some days we stay on schedule. Some days the electronics run a little longer than planned. Some days I log off early and meet friends at the park at 1pm because…why not? This is the kind of life I prayed for. More time with my boys. More flexibility. More random summer memories in the middle of a weekday.

The days look different right now, and I’m trying not to overthink it.

They still need structure. They still need chores, movement, outside time, and the occasional reminder that listening is, in fact, still required during summer break. Shocking, I know.

But they also need a mom who can go with the flow a little more.

A mom who can close the laptop when she can. Put the phone down. Listen to their random conversations. Ask questions. Let the house be lived in. Let summer feel like summer.

Because these are the moments building their childhood.

The park days. The slow mornings. The extra screen time here and there. The meetups with friends. The chores. The snacks. The tiny little moments that don’t look like much, but end up meaning everything.

Less rushing. More present.

Less perfect schedule. More memories.

More going with the flow and appreciating the days I prayed for.
